New York State Child Welfare/Child Protective Services Training Institute

Meg Brin, Director

With the goal of promoting safety, permanence, and well-being for New York State’s children, the New York State Child Welfare/Child Protective Services Training Institute (NYSCW/CPSTI) provides outcome-based training for all child welfare workers in the NYS child welfare system, ranging from mandatory Common Core raining for new child welfare workers to Supervisory Core training for supervisors, along with advanced skills for experienced staff.

The NYCW/CPSTI trains staff from local district departments of social services statewide, as well as staff from many nonprofit human services agencies, including child protective services (CPS) workers, preventive services staff, and foster care and adoption specialists. This training incorporates a solid grounding in child welfare best practices, policies, and laws, combined with advanced expertise in training methodologies.

In addition to incorporating the most current technologies in the training room, curriculum modules are offered in the form of distance learning methodologies that incorporate multimedia and online training venues. The NYSCW/CPSTI also offers technical assistance and facilitates several statewide annual conferences.
