Alfonso Ortiz |
Alfonso Ortiz is responsible for overseeing the Center’s extensive technology infrastructure, including its analysis, design, and implementation. Since he first began his career with CDHS over two decades ago, Alfonso has contributed to putting CDHS at the forefront of national training organizations by virtue of the variety and excellence of its technical communications platform. As director of the Management Information Systems (MIS) unit and chief systems architect for CDHS, he has a personal commitment to incorporating the latest computer technologies into the Center’s program administration and statewide training registration and reporting. He also investigates and oversees the migration to the most current Web-based learning technologies.
Early in his career Alfonso authored the first statewide automated training registration program used by local districts in New York State. Under his project management that innovative program (ALFO) was redesigned and expanded to include state and voluntary agencies, the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA), and the New York City Administration for Children’s Services (ACS). The enhanced program is now known as the Statewide Training Automated Registration System (STARS) application and is the official system of record for sponsored training events within New York State. Alfonso also oversees the Center’s Wide Area Network (WAN) and five local area networks (LANs), along with all core computer applications developed and maintained by the Center, including CARS, CAMPS, CONTRAK, MATCH, and others. In addition to being a systems engineer, Alfonso also holds M.P.A. and M.P.H. degrees. While studying at the University of Texas at Austin, he conducted research on infant mortality rates along the U.S.–Mexican border.
